La Posada

Santa Barbara, California
Opened: April 2024 | Capacity: 96 Residents

La Posada is an 80-room interim supportive housing community in Santa Barbara that serves up to 96 residents with 24/7 security, case management, meals, and on-site health services. Designed by Gensler with a trauma-informed approach, the village features durable BOSS Cubez units with private, fully furnished rooms that offer dignity and stability. As part of the county’s broader expansion of interim housing, La Posada plays a key role in closing the shelter gap and will eventually be relocated to serve additional communities in need.

La Posada is an 80-room interim supportive housing community located at 4500 Hollister Avenue, with the capacity to serve up to 96 residents. The community provides intensive case management, 24/7 security, three meals a day, and on-site mental and physical health services. Its creation is part of the County Board of Supervisors’ commitment to expand the successful DignityMoves partnership and build an additional 300 rooms across the county to help close the shelter gap. Set on County-owned land at the former Juvenile Hall site, La Posada offers private, furnished Cubez—each equipped with a locking door, bed, desk, heating, air conditioning, and a window for natural light. The community is thoughtfully using a trauma-informed approach to foster safety, dignity, and connection. BOSS Cubez provides durable, state-of-the-art modular units with insulated 2” walls, recycled materials, and steel frames to ensure long-term comfort and energy efficiency. The project is planned to serve the community for approximately five years before being relocated and repurposed to meet interim housing needs elsewhere in the county.

“Overall we had an amazing experience working with BOSS, all questions were addressed, and delivery deadline was met to avoid any delays with our project deadline. BOSS provided a relatively seamless process with very detailed direction in regard to assembly of the units. Products are of very high quality and really have provided a great housing solution alternative for our residents.”

— Bernardo Navarrete, City of Baldwin Park

“Our streets have literally become the waiting room for housing, I think this is a real game changer.”

— Elizabeth Funk, Founder of DignityMoves

“The BOSS system has been intelligently and strategically designed so the site assembly was remarkably simple. This led to a great balance between on site construction, organization and manufacturing expertise in this project.”

— Michael Waters, Swinerton Builders
